| These earbuds sound really nice, probably the best sounding pair I have owned.
Hopever, I found them to be quite uncomfortable and hard to fit compared to the humble koss plug or the more expensive Entymotic. The cable seems tough, but it has a strong PVC smell for the first few months which eventually fades, however it is stiff and prone to cracking. The build quality is quite poor, the bass driver on my right earpiece broke after 10 months, the cable covering broke around the same time. Despite the advertised 2 year warranty, I was unable to get a response to my RMA request from the ultimate ears website after two separate attempts over a 1 month period. And they do not sell spare earbuds for their products either. Cusotmer support leaves a lot to be desired. Not recommended. |

| was I expecting too much? | |||
| Clear and Vibrant highs and mediums, nice soudstage, rich sound.
Good built quality, nice set of accessories |
|||
| bass, bass, and bass. High and medium too present on most type of music tracks. Unbalanced sound.
Cables too stiff, not usable in every days situations. Big earphones that |

| I was expecting a huge improvement over the Sony MDR-EX71SL, but it did not happen for me. I could buy almost 5 set of Sony's for one UE set!!. Let' s be frank, the UE totally lack of bass response to a point where the sound become totally unbalanced when there are many instrument playing in the high range. The bass then totally disappear from the sound paysage. Highs and medium are so overhelming that after a while the ears get tired and scorched, whereas a more rounded sound is like "more comfortable".
The UE are not particularily comfy compared to the Sony's (which are small, light and which calbes are very supple so you literraly forget about them). The set of accessorie on the UE is good but nothing exeptionnal especially in regard of the price. For comparison sake, the sony come with a nice plastic capsule in which you put only the earphone bugs (not the cable). This is very convenient as it just protects what need to be protected. The UE metal box is too big to be usable and the latest package does not come with Leather case. Overall a big disapointement for the price tag. |
