CommentWow, what can I say? Fred Wasser at Adorama was EXCELLENT in helping me out with the purchase of my new camera lens (Canon 17-85mm IS USM). I initially bought a more expensive lens and he was even helpful with that order. 5 minutes later, I realized the lens wasn't what I wanted. Fred worked with me via e-mail AND telephone to QUICKLY cancel my order and easily order the lens and filters I did want. I didn't feel like I was dealing with a marketer hundreds of miles away. It felt like I was actually IN the store getting helped by a friend. Adorama has a large stock of used and refurbished lenses and Fred recommended that I could save a TON on a refurbished lens. I said "what the heck" and went with that. My order arrived the next day and I am overwhelmed with the quality of the refurbished lens! I plan on purchasing Canon refurbs again through Adorama for SURE.

Commentmuch like the individual below, i too ordered a camera, lens, and accessories from this company using a faster delivery choice than ground, but mine was also shipped ground as well. then in emails between us i was treated like an idiot who doesnt know how to order off the internet. i was told that i didnt order a faster mailing choice that i did opt for the ground choice, well, usually i would have considered that my fault, but the fact i was leaving for a vacation in the next week, i have my doubts that i did order it ground. to be treated so badly by the sales team after the fact too, to basically be told "no you are an idiot sir" well, that didnt sit to good with me either. its a shame cuz i have alot of friends who use adorama with no problems and the first time i do, i get treated like this. well it will be the last. another tidbit of info, the lens that i recieved has stabilization issues already, only a few months after recieving it, it just keeps getting better and better with this company. i sent them an email about it yesterday since i am now back in the country and i have yet to recieve a response from them, but i dont expect one from them. i was screwed, now i have to live with it i guess. another bush company in a bush country, oh joy

CommentLet me preface this review by stating that if you are ordering less than 200 dollars in camera equipment and don't care about shipping time, Adorama is the place for you. If you go over that amount expect upsale calls. If you expect items to be in stock or expect items to ship on time as promised, then go with B and H Photo instead.

I'm a professional photographer that has ordered Photographic equipment from years from online stores, ebay, and from the local shops. I don't judge harshly, but expect people to do what they say and promise.

I've ordered from Adorama quite a few times in the past, but can honestly say I'll never order from them again.

I placed an order for a used flash several days before this order. The first order didn't ship on time as expected. I got an email saying they were out of stock of the used 580ex. I told them to cancel. They somehow got more stock in within minutes and shipped my order a day late.

I placed my next order for a used 40d and several other items on Thursday night and got overnight shipping. I called on Friday and was told it would be here by Monday. I read their website and found that any orders placed on Thursday after 3 wouldn't be shipped until Monday. I called back, customer service closes at 1 on Fridays, nice.

I then got a call on Sunday from Myer, salesman, stating that they were out of stock of the used 40d's (even though their website still said it was in stock???) I told him to just send me the new one. He then tried to upsell me on some other stuff. I told him no and that was it. I asked him would it be delivered by Tuesday, he said yes. I then get another call from him stating that they are out of stock on the cards that i ordered.(once again, still in stock on the website) I tell him to just take those cards off the order. We hang up and I get an email telling me my order is delayed. I call him back and he says not to worry about the email and that he found some cards and it will be here by Tuesday. Strange.

I make sure and he assures me it will be here by Tuesday. I then call three times on Monday to Customer Service and they all assure me that even though the website says its not shipping that it really is. One says its boxed and packed. Then next says that the cards are delaying the order so they will ship those seperately.

I decide to trust. Then on Tuesday morning I get an email from them stating that my order will ship in 24-48 hours. I call them and tell them to cancel my order. I get an email from another rep offering to ship my order without the cards and I reply asking them to verify that the order has been cancelled and to not send the order. Recieved response that it has been cancelled.

Overall it wouldn't have been such a big deal if I didn't have to have it fast. I have a photoshoot out of town and will be gone for 5 days. I wanted the backup 40d for the shoot and expected the company to follow through with what they and their agents were offering. I decided to go to my local shop and make the purchase. Next time I'll order from B&H, no salesmen calling me up, website shows whats in stock and what's not, and they actually ship when they are supposed to.

CommentI placed two orders with Adorama recently and I we extremely disappointed with the way both of them were handled. The first one, I had to make some changes and it was just a big disaster, but the second one (as with the first one) I paid for 3-5 day shipping and my order was shipped ground. Adorama has gone down hill. My business will be going elsewhere going forward.

UPDATE: Adorama did contact me to see why I gave a bad review and after explaining it, the lady only argued with me that I was in the wrong (which may have been the case) instead of trying to understand the customer. I had sent two emails to Customer Support and never received a response (still haven't) until I posted this review. For a company that claims customer support is #1, why does it take a negative review to get their attention?

CommentI was looking for a 2GB xD Memory card for a digital camera as a gift for a friend. Adorama had the best price hands down, so after SPECIFICALLY looking at ONLY 2GB cards, I ordered one up. Order email came and I made sure the price was right. I waiting for my memory card to show up. When it did, it was a different 1GB memory card. Looking at the website, the 1GB card was the same price as the 2GB card I had ordered! CLASSIC BAIT and SWITCH! I googled "bait and switch adorama" and found many had the same issue. After calling them, they agreed to take back the memory card. (I'm now out a few dollars shipping to them) Originally, I was going to have them resend the right 2GB card, but this friend I was buying the card will be gone on vacation, so now I await a full refund, minus my lost shipping costs. BUYER BEWARE!

CommentThe products are great! Everything we could have hoped for. Unfortunately it took over a week to arrange a time to pick up the package once it had been delivered to our city. UPS tried to deliver it while we were at work. When we got home and found the failure to pick up notice, we called and tried to come to the distribution center to pick it up, but were told that because of an agreement with the shipper (Adorama) we could not. So we waited while they tried (unsuccessfully, of course) to deliver the package while we were at work during the next two days. Finally after the third attempt, we were first told that the package would be held for us to pick up. Then we were told that it could not be held and would be shipped back to the sender. We convinced them to try and deliver it one more time. I waited at home all day on the scheduled day, but no-one came. By late afternoon, I called and they said I could come and pick the package up.
I had wanted to pick it up a week ago when it arrived in Seattle!!
It is really annoying to be told that because of some contract UPS has with Adorama, that I could not go, in person, present my ID and sign the package out, but a neighbor could receive the package. This was a birthday gift to my husband. Due to all the delays, he has now gotten his gift (finally) ten days late.
Additionally, one item was on back order. I was told that it would ship within a week. On the day that I was supposed to receive it, I got a nice little email that said that they were very sorry but the supplier had not gotten them the item yet and it would be late. Great! When will it come? I can't just sit around the house all the time waiting for packages to arrive.
I guess my biggest complaint is the shipping agreement. It just seems to give working customers way too much of a hassle in trying to receive their purchased packages.

CommentThese people are pretty good, and in the end they fixed my problem. I couldn't find a price guarantee anywhere on there site, but I wrote them since the price of my item dropped in less than a week. After some confusion by the customer service on their end, I got my refund. These people are pretty good and they cancelled an order I made incorrectly a couple of months ago quickly and easily as well.

CommentQuite painless internet shopping experience, the order shipped on stated dates and arrived on day 8 (Range was 7-10 business days). I have been on Adorama's web site off and on price watching, it is fairly easy to navigate. The placing of the acutal order was about the same as any other reasonably secure web commerce site.

My only quibbles are in regard to packaging. My D-SLR was fine but the box only had those air pocket thingies on one side, and the manufacturers box was a little scuffed in places with one corner ding. I would like to have seen slightly better packing skills exhibited, but aside from that everything went well.

CommentShipping was fast, but be aware that if you choose the UPS method, someone must be home to sign for the package. Adorama does not allow for any other method. I live alone and work during the day, I usually go the local UPS distribution center after I get home to pick up a package after a delivery attempt has been made. When I called UPS last night, however, they told me that Adorama had specific language in their shipping contract that would not allow anything but a direct delivery or a shipment back to them. I could not "hold for pickup". When I pick up at UPS I always have to show ID, so I do not know why they care so much. To be fair, I went back to their website (since their customer service closes at 1:30 pm on Fridays) and in the fine print it mentions something similar). I had never heard of such restrictive delivery instructions before.
This is not a complete bash on Adorama, their prices were good for what I bought and the items shipped quickly and were well packed, just make sure you can get it delivered. After a couple of phone calls to UPS, I was very lucky to get it delivered after normal delivery hours.

CommentI placed this order for a lens, knowing that it was on a "temporarily back ordered" status. This was fine with me, as the price was substantially better than I found elsewhere.

At the time the order was placed, I was told there would be a "temporary" four day hold placed on my credit card, and that after the four days it would come off. While this made not much sense to me, having been a very satisfied customer of Adorama for many years, I accepted this as so.

A week later, I emailed and called them to find out why there was still a hold on my credit card. They clearly state that their policy is not to bill until the item ships, and while I understand that a "hold," is not exactly the same as a bill, it still has the same effect on my credit card, which is to make those funds unavailable. I was told that a manager would try to get the hold removed, but since it was a Friday, it might have to wait until Wednesday (due to a Jewish Holiday on Monday and Tuesday). I agreed, yet just before the Friday close time, I received an email that the hold could not be removed unless I canceled the order. I proceeded to do that, and received an immediate confirmation. As of today, the hold is still showing on my credit card.

I then proceeded to order my lens from a competitor, who had it in stock, but at the higher price. I have been assured however, that as soon as Adorama shows the item in stock, the difference would be refunded to me.

I'm not in business, so perhaps it's not workable, but it occurs to me that if an item is not in stock, and there's no estimate of when it might show up, nothing should be placed on a customer's credit card. If the client places the order, the store could email or call when the item comes back into stock, and any hold (or billing) could be placed on that time. It is just unfair to mess with people's credit when you can't deliver the goods.

Until this, I must say I've never had an issue with Adorama before, and even now, the customer service people were nothing but polite and trying to be helpful.

**Update. On Sunday morning, I received a call from Leah at Adorama, apologizing for the problems, and to let me know she had called my credit card company and the hold was now removed (true). I can now happily change my rating to satisfied (as always). Errors and problems can occur with any purchase, but to my mind, a store is only as good as the service it provides, and in this case, service has been more than satisfactory.

CommentI ordered two Canon Filters (L-39 Sharp Cut) and was sent two regular UV filters. Alright, mistakes happen. Called to get a return shipping notice to send the filters back for a replacement.
They didn't send the replacements they decided they were going to issue me a credit. Took FIVE WEEKS and mutiple phone calls to finally get the credit back on my credit card.
They used to a be great company to work with but lately it seems it's more trouble than it's worth to do business with.

CommentAdorama has become the website I default to when ordering photographic equipment. Prices are competitive. The few pieces of used I equipment I have purchased from them were in the condition described. They have a wide selection of products most of which are in stock and are honest about which items are grey market. Shipping is fast and at a reasonable rate.

CommentI ordered this Nikon lens after mine mysteriously broke and I didnt have time to send it back under warranty due to numerous planned vacations and wanting my camera. It came fast and works perfectly- looks brand new. I'd definitely purchase another lens from this site.

CommentThanks to ResellerRatings.com, I was able to avoid all of the "bait & switch" scammers out there and buy from a "real" company.

I wanted a Canon XTi, but have no use for the standard 18-55 lens. I wanted a 28-200. I considered buying the body and lens from separate stores. I had found the two lowest prices for the two items at different stores, but I thought I'd give a few stopres calls to see if anyone had inventory that hadn't made it online yet.

Adorama ended up having the exact lens I was looking for, used in excellent condition. I haven't used it yet, but it actually looks to be "like new". So I ordered the body, lens, a skylight filter, memory card, and back up battery.

The salesman, Fred Wasser <fred@adorama.com> politely made several suggestions for me to add to my order, but once I said that I was not interested in an item, he did not mention it again. He did "gently" try to sell me on a couple of items that I had to think about before decing to decline, but I did not feel pressured in any way at all.

I should also mention that Fred did not say anything that was not true about any of the items that he sold, or offered to me. I've read many reviews where that happened.

When the package arrived, all items where in the expected condition, properly packaged, and exactly as advertised.

The only "issue" I can mention is that I ordered on Sunday for my wife's birthday. I paid $18 for 3 day shipping and expeted delivery on Wednesday afternoon/evening. The package didn't arrive until Thursday evening.

The next time I buy, I'll get my best price, then I'll email Fred to see if he can beat it.

CommentGreat service, very fast shippment got the item in 4 days from U.S to Canada. The real thing i noticed was, it was an ORG. Cannon product. For the price i payed it was a great deal, i would have payed 2 times that in Canada. This is why i shop on line there many great deals out there. Also purchasing from Adorama you know you will get great service, they have been in service for many years. No doubt i will as before return to make another purchase. Thanks for the great service adorama.

CommentI am not impressed with Adorama at all. I have purchased about $5000 of equipment over the years from Adorama. It was fine as long as there was no problems - Adorama was glad to take my money. But my last order had several missing items. I reported this to Adorama late (I travel overseas for long periods). Adorama used the delay in my call as the reason they would not ever consider investigating my claim. They kept telling me they couldn't investigate with DHL whether the box was stolen when I kept telling them that the box had been delivered but several small, inexpensive items were missing. Somehow the expensive camera made it so the Adorama story was all obfuscation and b.b. It really felt like they had their reason to not consider the claim, and that was good enough for them.

I buy at B&H. I have found they have similar prices and are much easier to work with. And they don't rip you off like Adorama. Best to take your hard-earned funds to B&H for their professional and courteous customer support, you won't get that from Adorama.

CommentI just completed a most enjoyable buying experience. I spoke with Meyer (ext. 2258). He took my order, offered suggestions, and then confirmed my order via email. I'm getting exactly what I wanted -- at a great price -- and from a company that came highly recommended. The folks in the local camera clubs were right on. Thank you. And, just as they do, I will recommend Adorama and their representative Meyer.

CommentI ordered a used lens a CF card from the site. The next day I was told the lens was damaged and would not be shipped - the card would be though. As it was an international sale I wanted to cancel the order, as the postage was almost as much as the CF card!

After contacting the Adorama customer service email, I received a apologetic phone call and an offer to refund the postage. Very fair. While I'm disappointed I missed out on the lens, I'm happy with the service.

CommentI am super pleased with the quality of the Nikon 70-300 VR lens. It performs just as claimed in many reviews. I am also pleased with the speed of the sale with Adorama. I have shopped with them for about two years and bought a number of items from them, and no problems with anything. They are the first place I look to find what I need.

CommentPlaced order online and everything went smooth. When I received the order, there was a problem with the O-Ring packaging.

SKU# "IOMORPT015" had the same "Olympus" cardboard label (PSOLG-1) as SKU# "IOMSG", the Olympus Grease for Silicone O Ring.

I sure hope this is the correct O-Ring for my Olympus PT-015 housing.

Sunday June 1, 2008.
Scott, Adorama Customer Service, was quick to contact me on this matter. After answering a few of Scott's questions and a little research on the Adorama end, it was determined that Olympus mis-packaged the o-rings and Adorama caught it before shipping out the item. They added their own barcode label on the back of the Olympus label.

It was still confusing....maybe mark through the Olympus label or replace completely.

Bottom line, Adorama was quick to respond and resolved the problem in an efficent and friendly manner.

CommentMy transaction was very smooth. I bought a Canon S5 IS camera on Friday and received order confirmation right away. Tracking information was sent over the weekend and my package arrived on Thursday of that week. The camera was well packed and I am pleased with the experience.

CommentI chose the largest album of the highest quality. In retrospect, a smaller size (fewer than 36 pockets) would have been just as good and less bulky at 3 inches thick. But if you're just looking to have a nice album to store 8x10's then it's fine.

CommentI purchased a Nikon D200 Digital SLR Camera, body only for $1,139.95. I paid for UPS 3 Day Air delivery. I received the camera as promised. Communication regarding my order was excellent, they emailed to confirm the order and sent me a tracking number for UPS. I have ordered from them in the past and will order from them in the future. I would recommend this company to others considering a major camera purchase online.

CommentOrdered an in stock printer on May 14 and now it is May 29 and I have not heard anything beyond the initial order confirmation. Telephone lines are busy ("please call back in a couple of hours") and email to the Service dept has gone unanswered.

I've read Adorama's response to negative reviews here. They say there is a computer generated reply to all emails and phone contact by a service rep within 24 hours. So far that is not been true in my case.

I see that Adorama is highly rated here. For me they have failed the minimum criteria I have for online business: 1)Confirm the order & give an approximate ship date, 2)notify when the credit card has been charged and the item shipped 3)give a tracking number.
