Clever and cool for this summer's days out!

Felicia Granath

Pasta salad in the park or enjoying a cold drink on the beach with good friends – it’s finally picnic season! But to keep your food fresh and enjoy a cold drink, a cooler bag is a sensible investment.

3 tips for buying a cooler bag

1. Choose the right size

Different cooler bags are designed for different types of use. For example, you can find small cooler bags perfect for a lunch box, or larger cooler bags big enough to hold a picnic for the entire family. There are even special cooler bags for bottles, which work regardless of whether it’s champagne or apple juice you’re keeping cool!

2. Think about ergonomics

Food and drink can be heavy things to carry. If you don’t have a trolley to pull the cooler bag with, you have to choose a model that’s comfortable to carry. A substantial carrying strap, ideally with padding to make it more comfortable over your shoulder, is strongly recommended.

3. Don’t forget the ice packs

Don’t forget to buy enough ice packs. And don’t forget to put them in the freezer well in advance, before it's time to pack your picnic and set off! The cooler bag doesn’t actually have a cooling effect itself, but simply retains the coolness generated by the ice packs.
