There's nothing that gets you more into a summer mood than feeling the sun on your face and the sand between your toes, but there's nothing that turns that mood more sour than sticky fingers, sunburns and hangry children. Luckily we've got the checklist on everything you need for a full day at the beach. Vamos a la playa!

Ultimate day at the beach checklist

1. Beach bag

Even if you're just going for a quick swim, you'll need to bring some necessities. Avoid chaos and the risk of forgetting something by going for a sturdy beach bag. Keep the rest of the stuff in the bag dry by putting your wet swimwear in a plain plastic bag when it's time to go home. This also doubles as a perfect sunscreen container, no risk for a sticky mess!

2. Swimwear and sunglasses

There's no such thing as bad weather when you want to show off your new swimwear to the world. Pair it with some sunglasses for full effect and of course the possibility to secretly enjoy all those admiring looks.

3. Food and snacks

You know how it is. You do not, I repeat do NOT want to risk getting hangry when at the beach. Avoid the inevitable chaos which ensues when you run out of food and coffee by making sure you bring a well filled thermos and a generous snack supply. Keep your sliced fruit and other perfect picnic snacks cool and fresh by using a cooler bag.

4. Entertainment

Playing Marco Polo or holding your breath under water is super fun. For like five minutes. It's time to bring out the water sports. Challenge your balance on a paddle board, go for a round of beach volley, or ask the kids to do an ocular inspection of the pool floor with a diving mask.

5. Picnic blanket and beach chair

To cope with a whole day in the sun, there is some requirements when it comes to comfort. With a picnic blanket you can easily work on that "same shade on both sides" -kind of tan. But most importantly enjoy that afternoon nap under a parasol. Another option is a beach chair, perfect for reading, and of course equipped with a mug holder so you don't really have to move all day except for bathroom breaks.

6. Sun protection and cap

There's really nothing worse than getting a sun burn, especially since it's so harmful to your skin. Make sure to re-apply sun protection throughout the day and make sure it's high in SPF. A cap is the best way to protect your head and scalp, but if you're feeling more extravagant a large sun hat will of course do the trick as well.

7. Cooler bag

Lukewarm drinks are a no-no, and with a cooler bag you also make sure that your food stays fresh. Stay hydrated with style using a nice water bottle.

8. A good book

Whether you prefer to flip the pages on your own, or dream away in the world of audiobooks, this is a perfect pastime for your beach trip.

9. Bluetooth speakers

Music sets the mood for any sunny day, but please respect thy neighbour and let the company next to you decide the genre every now and then. Who knows, might even turn into a summer themed music quiz?

What's your must-have in the beach bag?
