Three tips for buying a table

Marble has long been a popular material – its unique patterns add an exclusive touch to any table. But, it's not the most practical choice as it's not resistant to moisture or heat. So investing in coasters is a must to keep the surface looking good. To further protect your marble table, we suggest using marble oil.

For those seeking a more durable and low-maintenance option, a lacquered or stone surface table would be an excellent choice. Glass tables are also easy to clean but are prone to scratches. Wooden tables are a classic option, but we recommend going for solid wood instead of veneer so you can sand the surface if it becomes scratched.

The most important thing is that there's enough room for everyone to sit comfortably. Allow around 24in/60cm per person, so they don't feel cramped. Also, make sure there's at least 24in/60cm (or 48in/120cm if you need space for a wheelchair) between the table and the wall. This way, you'll have plenty of space to move around and pull out chairs.

Do you need additional space for serving dishes, pots, pans, or ornaments? If so, a table with an extension could be an excellent choice, particularly if you have a small home. With an extension, you can easily accommodate more guests and then reduce the table size for everyday use.

A round table is an excellent option for those with larger families or who love hosting dinner parties, as it allows everyone to see each other. In smaller kitchens, a square table is more practical as it takes up less space. You can easily place it against a wall or in a corner. Pillar tables are also a good option as they have one leg, leaving more room for chairs.

If you're planning a formal dinner party, here's everything you need to know about how to set the table for formal occasions.
