3 tips when shopping for bleach

Hair colour packages come with a number combination that tells you the level and tone of the colour. The first digit represents the colour level on a scale of 1–10, while the second digit denotes the warmth or coolness of the shade. Warm tones correspond to numbers 3, 4, 5, or 6, while cool tones correspond to 1, 2, 8, or 9.

For example, if the label reads 10,2, the number 10 indicates the lightest shade, and the number 2 denotes a cool tone.

If you have long or thick hair, you might need more than one hair colour pack, or go for bleach in a larger pack.

After hair treatments, a purple-tone post-treatment pack is often provided to neutralise any yellowing of the hair. But if you don't think that’s enough, try one of these:

  • silver shampoo – diminishes yellow tones but can cause some wear and tear

  • colour bomb – often has a caring formula, gentler than silver shampoo

  • toner – a good choice for a more intense and long lasting result.
