The 3800X performs and delivers raw processing power without any problems. I have it installed on an ASUS ROG X570-F motherboard and had it overclocked directly to 4.3 GHz on 1.375 V with no problems. It actually gave better performance and temperatures at the same time as the voltage on the motherboard was set to over 1.4 V by default. I was considering the 3700X to start with since it has a lower TDP of 65W against the 105W for 3800X and was cheaper. In between time, 3800X was put down to the same selling price as 3700X (where it is also now) and the greater room for overclocking with the higher power made the choice obvious. I have installed my own water cooling system though so if you consider a very compact (ITX) or air-cooled setup 3700X might not be a stupid investment. I'm idling (Windows, Google Chrome and slightly other background apps) at 44-45 degrees and hitting 73-74 degrees on testing with the Cinebench R20.
Runs really well and has lots of raw power for the tasks I have could throw against it. Uses it on an ASUS ROG Strix X570-F with a NZXT Kraken X63 280mm cooler on and up until now everything has been running fluidly and with good temperatures. Can't comment on the included cooler, other than that it looks neat and seems solid and in good quality. Selected from start to throw the NZXT on. And have not yet had the need to overclock, as I've had enough power for what I need it for. Can be warmly recommended.
It's expensive ratio to a 3700x, but with the AMD precision boost, this Board (Gigabyte X570 AORUS ULTRA) will adjust your CPU very well, or the models below that price from Gigabyte. My Gigabyte X570 AORUS ULTRA has even via AMD precision boost O.C. it to 3.9 to 4.5 Ghz (max). If one has PSU + AIO cooling you will be able for your 3700x or 3800x up on max Clock with no issue. + I use 3200mhz ram, I would recommend anything over 3200mhz to be able to take advantage of your AMD. For normal user, I will buy 3700x
