Senet - The Ancient Egyptian Board Game

Senet - The Ancient Egyptian Board Game

Senet - The ancient Egyptian board game Excellent standard of finish Made in Spain Superb quality Supplied in lovely gift box Senet is one of the oldest games available on the Regency Chess website. This version has been sourced from an artisan in Spain who makes extremely high quality traditional games. The set comes nicely presented in a quality box that will last as a permanent storage solution. The set makes an ideal gift and is certain to spark plenty of interest. The game of Senet was discovered on Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphs and it's thought that broken up Senet boards were found in the tombs of Ancient Egyptians. These date back as far as 3000 BC. The Egyptians gave slightly religious meanings to the game. The original versions of the game were made from stone rather than wood. The current versions of the game are based on snippets of the original rules found in Ancient Egypt but it's fair to say that there must be some differences between todays versions and the original Egyptian game play. This version features a solid wooden board with a thirty square board pattern. The set has an amazing recessed inlay of the board pattern, the manufacturers could easily have silk printed it on, but instead they've gone to great lenghts to create a really lovely inlaid wooden playing surface. The game pieces are also solid wood and have been finished off to an extremely high standard. THE HISTORY Although the Revolution of 1776-1783 created the United States, it was the Civil War of 1861-1865 that determined what sort of nation it would be. It settled two major issues that were unresolved by the revolution - to determine whether the United States was to be a "dissolvable confederation of sovereign states" or to be "an indivisible nation with a sovereign national government” and whether "this nation who declared that all men were created with equal rights to liberty" would continue to exist as the dominant slaveholding country in the world. Atlantic Series Staunton Red & Cream Lacquered 3.75 Inches

Atlantic Series Staunton Red & Cream Lacquered 3.75 Inches

Fine boxwood. Expert high gloss finish. Weighted and felted. 3.75 inch (95 mm) king. Perfect with a 20 inch (50 cm) board. Pieces made in England. The beautiful design of the Atlantic series takes on a new dimension with these red and cream lacquered chess men. Red and cream is a colour scheme that can be expensive to achieve, particularly in high-quality lacquer. The same is true for these Atlantic pieces, but here at Regency Chess we wanted to make them affordable, particularly as similar chess pieces on the market can sell for more than £300. The popularity of art chess pieces has grown hugely in the last decade, although few are made as well as our Atlantic Series Staunton Red & Cream Lacquered 3.75 inches. Sometimes art manufacturers can ignore the practical needs of a chess piece, creating a beautiful yet brittle product. Recognising this, we concentrated our efforts on building a set of art chess pieces that will stand the test of time, as well as the discerning eye of a critic. Under the lacquer is fine graded boxwood, exactly the same as the natural wooden version. Expertly lacquered and then polished to a high gloss, these chessmen are then double weighted before a thick layer of protective felt is added to the bottom. As a result, for less than £100, a remarkable set of art chess pieces is ready to be shipped to UK customers in less than 48 hours. The king has a base diameter of 1.6 inches (41 mm)which means these coloured chess pieces will sit perfectly on any of our 20 inch (50 cm) chess boards. Why not try them on the similarly spectacular Lacquered Red Erable Luxury Chess Board.
