27 products that have increased the most in price

With the ongoing cost of living crisis we wanted to find out which products had seen the largest price increase in the past two years, so you know which products to avoid buying. We also took a look at which products had decreased the most in price.

We investigate the price increase of products

Inflation, increased cost of living, increased costs due to shortages, these are all terms we've been frequently exposed to in the past few months but not all products have increased equally in price. We have analysed more than 40 000 products on our site to find out which ones had increased the most in price between May 2020 and May 2022, in some cases we found that products have actually doubled in price.

Products with largest price increases

Below we have detailed the products that have increased the most in the past two years and how much more expensive they are on average today when compared to 2 years ago.

With a shortage of semi-conductors and with massive delays in transportations along with inflation it's unsurprising that in the past two years we have seen a massive increase in price in products such as TVs, graphic cards, desktop computers and digital cameras.

"With the global delivery crisis, the UK’s own supply chain issues, a global semiconductor shortage and other factors, it has been harder for retailers to keep up with demand and prices have been pushed up as a result.” Christine Gouldthorp, Consumer Expert at PriceRunner.

Largest price decreases past two years

Does this mean that we've only seen an increase in price? Luckily no, in fact there are plenty of products that have decreased in price. Below you can see the products with the largest price decrease in the past two years.

" There are plenty of categories that have gone down in price during the past couple of years. For those planning a staycation this year, leisure products such as green houses, sewing machines and boating products have all gotten cheaper over the past two years.” said Christine Gouldthorp.

With rising prices on food, fuel and energy, it might seem like everything is getting more expensive. But if you do a little bit of homework and investigate prices before you buy, you will find that there are products that are cheaper now than two years ago.
