When it comes to camping stoves, each fuel has its pros and cons. Consider when you plan on using your stove:
Summer: A gas burner stove is suitable for warmer conditions. For colder temperatures, opt for LPG variants that can withstand temperatures down to -22°C.
Winter: Petrol, white spirit and kerosene aren’t affected by cold and bad weather, making them a good choice if you want to use your camping stove in winter.
All year round: A multi-fuel stove is ideal when you want to cook outdoors all year round. They're also suitable for crisis boxes if you're interested in prepping.
Spirits such as white spirit are an affordable and easy fuel to use. One litre usually lasts for a week for two people. The downside is soot, so you’ll have to clean the stove after each use. LPG is a cleaner fuel option that heats up quickly. It’s a little more expensive and takes up more space, as you need to take bottles with you.
There are also stoves that use wood, sticks and pine cones. You don’t have to worry about fuel, as you can fetch it directly from nature. But it takes longer to start the fire, and wet tinder can be challenging to light.
When you're hiking and only have freeze-dried food, you can go for a gas stove as you only need to heat water. But if you want to cook proper meals for several people, a camping stove may be a better choice. You can cook the food in a pot or a pan.
