Top 11 Best Baby bottles of 2022

PriceRunner

Do you want to bottle feed your baby? We tested a wide range of baby bottles, made from both plastic and glass. For us to select a baby bottle as Best Choice, it must be convenient to use, comfortable to hold, easy to clean – and have a teat suitable for your baby.

How we performed the test

Our tests are independently conducted and reflect the test editor's honest and objective opinions. Selection of products and test results are in no way influenced by manufacturers, retailers or other internal or external parties.

We carry out all of our tests ourselves and test all products as they are intended to be used in reality. In our test of baby bottles, we asked seven families with small children to evaluate the different bottles. Each family tested 3-4 baby bottles in parallel, over a period of several months.

With the exception of a few bottles only intended for breast milk, all baby bottles were tested with both breast and baby milk. The children using the baby bottles were from newborn and up to four years of age.

In our test of baby bottles, we have primarily looked at the following aspects:

  • Design: What shape is the bottle, and how comfortable is it to hold? What does the bottle look like? Are the bottle's aesthetic elements durable or do they quickly wear away?

  • Function: Does the baby bottle have any unique function? Is the bottle watertight if you shake it to mix the baby milk? How do you clean the baby bottle?

  • Use: Is the opening narrow or wide? What's the teat like? What accessories are included?

In addition to this, we’ve also taken the baby bottle's price into consideration in our final assessment. After this, we've allocated scores and chosen the test winners.

1. Twistshake Anti-Colic Baby Bottle - BEST BUDGET CHOICE

Colourful, practical baby bottle that’s ideal for baby milk

Price class: Budget Material: BPA-free PP plastic, teat in 100% toxin-free silicone Examples of available sizes: 180 ml, 260 ml, 330 ml Dishwasher safe: Yes (not teat) Microwave safe: Yes

Twistshake Anti-Colic Baby Bottle 330ml

Twistshake have a wide range of baby accessories, but it’s without a doubt the baby bottle that's the flagship product. The design is simply stylish and the bottle is available in many different bright colours. The cylindrical shape of the baby bottle isn’t the best for holding onto, but the Twistshake Anti-Colic never feels slippery or uncomfortable when you're feeding your baby.

The Twistshake Anti-Colic is available with many different sizes of teat and can be used for all ages of child. The teat is in silicone and needs to be hand washed. It has a rounded, tubular shape. If you bottle feed at night, it’s an advantage that the teat doesn’t have a specific top and bottom side. The baby bottle is also easy to hand wash, but is dishwasher safe too. The quantity scale on the outside of the bottle didn’t wear off or get scratched during the test period.

Nappflaska-Twistshake

Extra convenient for feeding baby milk

There are two reasons why the Twistshake Anti-Colic is particularly convenient for feeding baby milk. One is that the baby bottle has a wide opening, making it easier to get the powder into the bottle. And the other is that it includes a clever mixing net that means you can conveniently pour in hot water and powder and then shake the drink until it’s free of lumps. A small powder container you can store inside the empty baby bottle is also included. This is really useful when you're going to be on the go and need the right quantity of baby milk powder ready to use.

The Twistshake Anti-Colic caused no problems with the children who tested the baby bottle. The parents appreciated its convenient functions but thought the bottle shape could have been curvier to make it easier to hold. Overall, the Twistshake Anti-Colic is a much appreciated and colourful baby bottle with really useful accessories.

2. NUK Nature Sense Glass

Durable and attractive glass baby bottle with wide opening for baby milk

Price class: Premium Material: Toughened glass Examples of available sizes: 120 ml, 240 ml Dishwasher safe: Yes Microwave safe: Yes

Nuk Nature Sense Glass Bottle 120ml

The NUK Nature Sense is available in two versions – a normal baby bottle in plastic, and the Nature Sense Glass. The glass bottle is manufactured from toughened glass and can be used in exactly the same way as a plastic baby bottle. Nature Sense bottles share the same teat. This is a large and soft teat specially designed with several openings, to create the same flow as when the baby is breastfeeding.

It’s worth knowing that the Nature Sense teat has specific top and bottom sides when the child has the teat in its mouth. This means it’s a bit more fiddly to make sure the teat is up the right way when you’re feeding in the dark. Some children get on with the teat from the outset and prefer it, while others need a period of acclimatisation and others simply never accept it.

Fresh baby bottle in durable glass

The NUK Nature Sense Glass is a durable baby bottle. The toughened glass can clearly cope with being dropped on the floor, at least from a lowish height. The fact that the bottle is made from glass makes it a bit heavier, which can affect whether a small child can hold the bottle themselves. It can also feel a bit hard and uncomfortable to hold. The bottle is short and broad. The opening is also wide. This makes it easy to add baby milk powder to the bottle.

The wide opening together with the toughened glass makes the baby bottle easy to clean, and the NUK Nature Sense feels just as fresh even after a few months’ daily use. The design is simple but attractive. If you're looking for a glass bottle and your child gets on with the teat, the NUK Nature Sense Glass is a high quality baby bottle you’ll be really happy with.

3. Medela Calma

Easy-to-handle baby bottle with teat aimed at breastfeeding children

Price class: Premium Material: BPA-free polypropylene Examples of available sizes: 150 ml, 250 ml Dishwasher safe: Yes Microwave safe: Yes

Medela Calma Bottle 150ml

Medela's Calma comes with a teat specially designed to be as similar to a breast as possible. A built-in valve prevents the child from swallowing air as it feeds. The idea is that the Calma teat allows the child to suck and breathe as if it was feeding from a breast. If you want to alternate bottle and breastfeeding, the Medela Calma can be a useful bottle for disrupting breastfeeding as little as possible.

The bottle is available in two different sizes, and the same teat works for both. The design of the bottle is neutral and the bottle itself is neat and easy to handle. The Medela Calma is intended for using with breast milk, but of course you can also use it with baby milk. The opening of the bottle is on the narrower side of normal. The Calma is dishwasher safe and easy to keep clean. The fact that it has quite a lot of parts means you have to do a fair bit of disassembly and reassembly to wash it, however.

High quality, durable baby bottle As always with Medela products, the Calma is made from high quality materials. It doesn’t show any signs of wear at all during our test period. The scale on the outside of the bottle initially feels hard to read, but you quickly get used to it. The bottle is compatible with Medela’s breast pumps and can be linked directly to the pump to collect milk, and used to store milk in the freezer.

The special teat that comes with the Medela Calma works really well for some families. The child accepts it immediately and can seamlessly alternate between bottle and breastfeeding. Other children didn’t like the shape of the teat and categorically refused the bottle. But if you have a baby who accepts it, and you also use a Medela breast pump? Then the Medela Calma is an obvious choice of baby bottle.

4. MAM Feel Good Glass Bottle

Tough but rather heavy glass baby bottle, good for older children

Price class: Premium Material: Borosilicate glass Examples of available sizes: 170 ml, 260 ml Dishwasher safe: Yes Microwave safe: Yes

Mam Feel Good Glass Bottle 260ml

The range of baby bottles in glass is growing, and the MAM Feel Good is one of them. The bottle is available in two different sizes, and MAM also sell different teats based on the child’s age and feeding habits. The baby bottle is quite large, with a bigger circumference than other baby bottles with the same volume. But this doesn’t make it uncomfortable to hold. However, because it's made of glass it can be a little slippery if it’s wet on the outside.

One advantage of glass is that it feels better than plastic from a sustainability perspective. Glass is also easy to keep clean and can often feel significantly fresher after a year’s use than a plastic bottle. The disadvantages of a baby bottle made from glass – which also apply to the MAM Feel Good – are that the bottle is much heavier, and that there’s a bigger risk of it breaking if you drop it on the floor. The Feel Good can cope with some rough handling and a few falls without being damaged.

Nappflaska-MAM-Feel-Good-Glasflaska

Fresh and durable high quality baby bottle

The MAM Feel Good is dishwasher safe, although the silicone teat must be hand washed. The bottle consists of the actual bottle part, a teat and a ring to attach it, plus a lid. The bottle is made from borosilicate glass, which tolerates heating and cooling without the glass becoming brittle. The opening is a bit on the narrow side, but the Feel Good works fine with baby milk powder. The design of the bottle is simple but attractive.

The impression you get from the MAM Feel Good is that this is a high quality baby bottle, and this is also reflected in the price class. There’s no specific anti-colic function, but the test children appreciated the bottle and even accepted the teat. If you're looking for a glass baby bottle that will stand up to long use, the MAM Feel Good is undoubtedly a good buy.

5. Medela Breast Milk Bottle

Neat and convenient baby bottle ideal for anyone using Medela’s breast pump

Price class: Medium Material: BPA-free polypropylene Examples of available sizes: 150 ml, 250 ml Dishwasher safe: Yes Microwave safe: Yes

Medela Breast Milk Bottle with Teat 250ml

As well as breast pumps, Medela also manufactures baby bottles. The idea is, of course, for the breast pump and baby bottle to be combined, but the bottles can also be used independently. If you're going to pump, it’s a godsend that Medela Breast Milk Bottle can be attached directly to Medela’s breast pump. This way, the bottle can be used to collect milk, to feed and also for storage as the filled bottle can be frozen.

Teats of several different sizes are available for the Medela Breast Milk Bottle. In fact, no teat is included – you have to buy it separately. Just like the majority of other teats, it's a matter of preference as to whether or not your baby will accept this one. The bottle is available in two different sizes. The smaller one is just right for an infant. The design may not be exciting, but it’s not ugly either. The bottles are high quality in terms of durability and still look like new after a tough period of use.

The best choice for anyone using Medela’s breast pump

As the name indicates, the bottle is intended for breast milk, but can also be used with other liquids. If you're feeding baby milk, the rather narrow opening on the baby bottle makes it difficult to pour powder in without spilling it. Nor is there a mixing mesh or anything else that make it easier to shake the liquid free of lumps.

The Medela Breast Milk Bottle has a lid that consists of the ring into which you insert the teat and a loose washer that you add to create a lid. It’s good that Medela have minimised the parts for the bottle. Unfortunately it’s easy to be careless with putting the lid together, which can lead to leakage. Otherwise, the Medela Breast Milk Bottle is a neat and durable baby bottle, and the most convenient choice for anyone using a breast pump from Medela.

6. NUK Nature Sense

Attractively designed, high quality baby bottle, particularly good for infants

Price class: Medium Material: BPA-free PP plastic Examples of available sizes: 150 ml, 260 ml Dishwasher safe: Yes Microwave safe: Yes

Nuk Nature Sense Bottle with Silicone Teat 0-6m 150ml

The Nature Sense baby bottle from NUK has a special teat intended to create a flow similar to that when the baby feeds from a breast. Instead of a single hole, the Nature Sense teat has three or more openings. The teat is available in several different sizes, so you can easily choose the right one for the age of the child and depending on whether you're feeding breast milk or baby milk.

The baby bottle is stylish, with a discreet pattern and clear scale. The design feels suitable for a baby product and is appreciated by the adults too. As well as the teat, the bottle includes a lid. The Nature Sense contains no unnecessary parts and is easy to take apart for cleaning. The bottle is dishwasher safe. The print on the bottle is durable and didn’t fade or wear off after a period of intensive use.

Nappflaska-NUK-Nature-Sense-Glas

Attractive and easy to fill

The NUK Nature Sense is relatively wide, which makes it a bit shorter than other bottles with the same volume. This means it's a bit chunkier in your hand, but it still doesn’t feel uncomfortable to hold. The width of the baby bottle means that the opening is large too. This makes it very easy to fill with powder when you're feeding baby milk. You can shake the bottle, but there’s no special mixing mesh to remove any lumps.

According to NUK, the teat is extra soft yet provides broad lip support and prevents colic. The teat is curved and on the short side, which means that the child sometimes seems to lose their grip on it. Some children get used to the teat and like it, while others never seem to become accustomed to it. If you have a child who likes the teat, the NUK Nature Sense gives you a high quality baby bottle with an appealing design that’s very easy to fill.

7. Dr Brown’s Wide Neck

Easy to hold but hard to wash baby bottle, particularly good for babies prone to vomiting

Price class: Medium Material: BPA-free polypropylene and silicone Examples of available sizes: 150 ml, 270 ml, 330 ml Dishwasher safe: Only teat, not bottle Microwave safe: No information

Dr. Brown's Options+ Wide-Neck Baby Bottle 150ml

If your county council and a fax manufacturer from the early 1990s got together to design a baby bottle, the result would be Dr Brown’s Wide Neck. The bottle design can best be described as boring – almost retro. But how important is appearance providing the functions are there? And there’s certainly nothing wrong with the Wide Neck when it comes to using it.

Dr Brown’s Wide Neck is available in several different sizes. The largest, at 330 ml, is a bit too wide and feels difficult to get a good grip of if you don’t have big hands. The medium size of 270 ml is also quite broad, but the narrower waist of the bottle means it’s just the right circumference for a comfortable grip. One advantage of the broadness of the bottle is that the opening is also wide, which makes it easier to add baby milk powder.

Nappflaska-Dr-Browns

Unusually, the teat – but not the bottle itself – is dishwasher safe. The baby bottle also has an anti-colic system that requires a special dish brush. It’s a shame that the Wide Neck is made up of so many small parts. There’s a big risk that you’ll lose something. At the same time, the anti-colic system seems to be genuinely effective. When one family tried out feeding their child with and without the valve, they found that the baby vomited less and suffered from fewer stomach problems with the anti-colic system in place.

The families who tried out Dr Brown’s Wide Neck with baby milk found that the bottle colour became a bit cloudy a couple of months, which makes it look a bit sad. Otherwise, the quality was good. If you're looking for a large baby bottle with a good grip and what seems to be an efficient anti-colic valve, Dr Brown’s Wide Neck is an option worth considering.

8. MAM Easy Start Anti-Colic

Good value and functional baby bottle for babies who latch on to a teat easily

Price class: Budget Material: BPA-free polypropene Examples of available sizes: 130 ml, 160 ml, 260 ml Dishwasher safe: Yes Microwave safe: Yes

Mam Easy Start Anti-Colic Bottle 260ml

The MAM Easy Start Anti-Colic is a baby bottle you’ll recognise, primarily because it's been a staple of supermarket shelves for many years. The bottle is available in a wide range of pastel colours and has a rounded, chubby shape. On the outside of the bottle there are also perforations to improve grip. Together with the shape of the bottle, this makes it very comfortable to feed your child with the Easy Start Anti-Colic.

The opening is on the narrow side, which means you need a steady hand when you’re adding baby milk powder. There’s no mixing mesh, but you can shake the MAM Easy Start Anti-Colic to mix the water and powder. The bottle includes a lid, and this is watertight enough for it to be safe to pack into the baby changing bag when full.

Easy clean multi-piece baby bottle Despite the narrow opening, MAM’s baby bottle is very easy to clean. This is because it consists of a total of six parts and can be taken apart both at the top and bottom, where the bottle’s anti-colic system – a rubber valve – can be found. The bottle is easy to wash by hand but is also dishwasher safe.

While many baby bottle manufacturers strive to create a teat that's as natural and breast-like as possible, MAM have chosen a classic teat in sturdy silicone. An advantage is that the teat – and the bottle itself – feel very durable and tough. Not a scratch is visible on either after two or three months’ use. But one disadvantage is that the teat feels rather uncomfortable and narrow. The MAM Easy Start Anti-Colic is a functional and good value baby bottle, best suited for a baby without any particular teat preference.

9. Tommee Tippee Anti Colic

Baby bottle that’s rather difficult to clean but nice to hold, for children who like soft teats

Price class: Medium Material: BPA and phthalate-free plastic, silicone teat Examples of available sizes: 150 ml, 260 ml, 340 ml Dishwasher safe: Yes Microwave safe: Yes

Tommee Tippee Advanced Anti-Colic Bottles 260ml 3-pack

The Tommee Tippee Anti Colic is described by one test family as “the Gadget Boy of baby bottles”. It’s certainly true that the bottle comes with a generous number of accessories and parts: teat, bottle, lid, the three-part anti-colic mechanism and a small dish brush intended to clean the suction tube that prevents the child from swallowing too much air.

The design of the baby bottle gets mixed reactions. But all our testers agreed that the hourglass shape of the Tommee Tippee Anti Colic made it very easy to hold. The bottle is marketed as breast-like, and it’s not difficult to understand why. The large, rounded silicone teat definitely resembles a breast. The teat is meant to be extra soft, which it is, but unfortunately this also makes it extra sensitive to bite marks. And as soon as marks appear you have to replace the teat.

Hard work to wash

One major advantage of the Tommee Tippee Anti Colic is the wide opening, which really makes it easy to add baby milk powder without spilling it everywhere. But when the baby bottle is empty, you quickly discover its biggest disadvantage – cleaning. All of the small parts that have to be dismantled to wash them add up to more work than you really want to do.

For one of the children who tested the bottle, the round teat was their favourite, while other children completely refused to drink from it. As usual, the child’s preferences are very individual when it comes to baby bottles. But if you have a child who likes the big, soft teat of the Tommee Tippee Anti Colic, and you don’t mind the fiddly cleaning process, you get a comfortable baby bottle with a nice grip.

10. Tommee Tippee Closer To Nature

Cheap, effective baby bottle for anyone who appreciates a good grip

Price class: Budget Material: BPA and phthalate-free plastic, silicone teat Examples of available sizes: 150 ml, 260 ml, 340 ml Dishwasher safe: Yes Microwave safe: Yes

Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Anti-Colic 150ml

The Tommee Tippee Closer To Nature is an uncomplicated baby bottle – what you see is what you get. The bottle is available in three different sizes, and the teat is also available in different variants depending on the child’s age and what they're being fed. The Closer To Nature has a simple design without unnecessary frills. In fact, it's so simple it’s almost boring. This makes the shape of the bottle stand out even more – and positively so. The baby bottle is almost hourglass shaped, which means you can get a solid, comfortable grip with your hand when you hold it in the middle.

If you're going to be feeding baby milk, you’ll appreciate the wide opening on the Tommee Tippee Closer To Nature. The opening makes it easy to get the powder scoop in and means the bottle is easy to clean out after use. The Closer To Nature has only a few parts, which means you don’t need to fiddle around disassembling it to clean it.

Very good grip on the baby bottle Just like all other baby bottles, different children have different opinions of the Closer To Nature. Some younger babies find the teat a bit short and easily lose it, while others have no problems at all. The valve in the teat, which is intended to ensure air flow, sometimes seems to leak a bit if you don't hold the bottle right. The lid can also be a bit tricky to get on sometimes, but it doesn’t leak once it’s in place.

The Closer To Nature doesn’t have any unique functions, and because the competition is tough among the wide range of baby bottles, this is a model you'd quickly forget. But the price should be taken into account. Because when you include that, the Tommee Tippee Closer To Nature feels like a simple and functional baby bottle with one of the best and most comfortable hand positions for the parent.

11. NUK First Choice Temperature Control

Easy-to-hold baby bottle with temperature indicator to reduce risk of scalding

Price class: Medium Material: BPA-free PP plastic Examples of available sizes: 150 ml, 300 ml Dishwasher safe: No Microwave safe: No

Nuk First Choice+ Temperature Control Baby Bottle 300ml

A common way to check that the contents of a baby bottle are the right temperature is to drop a little on your wrist. But the NUK First Choice Temperature Control means you don’t have to do that. The baby bottle has a thermometer graphic incorporated into the scale on the outside. If the lines are white, the contents of the bottle are hotter than 37°C, and too hot for the child to drink. If the lines are blue, the liquid is below body heat and is drinkable.

If you’re worried your child may burn their mouth, a temperature indicator can be a good idea. But there are other ways to check the temperature – by feeling the bottle or using a thermometer. One disadvantage of the NUK Temperature Control is that it’s not dishwasher safe. We did test that and there seemed to be no impact on function after a few dishwasher cycles. But over time it’s quite possible that the thermometer will be damaged.

Clever function that feels unnecessary in practice

The baby bottle doesn’t really stand out in any way. It has a discreet design and is shaped to fit in your hand. The opening is quite narrow, which increases the risk of it getting sticky if you drop baby milk powder on it. The teat that comes with the NUK Temperature Control is an anatomical one, and this type of teat always gets mixed reactions. Some children accept them immediately, while others take an equally instant dislike.

The fact that the teat has a right way up also makes it more fiddly to use in the dark. And this is the only bottle in the test where deposits quickly form in the bottom, despite careful cleaning using NUK’s own (otherwise excellent) detergent. Even though the idea of temperature control on a baby bottle is a good one, the function feels unnecessary in practice and the NUK First Choice Temperature Control isn’t our favourite baby bottle.
