Three things to consider before buying racket sport shoes

The most important point when buying a pair of shoes for racket sports is that you choose a pair that is adapted for the racket sport you play. Many people think you can use the same type of shoe for e.g. both badminton and padel and, even though it works, it is not at all optimal. Not for your feet or your game.

If we compare tennis' long runs with squash’s short and fast spurts, it becomes clear that the sports require different types of shoes. Some examples of differences between the shoes are stability, reinforcement, and often even the weight of the shoes. So make sure you choose a pair of shoes that are adapted for either squash, tennis, padel, or badminton.

  • Cushioning: A pair of shoes with good cushioning reduces the weight of the foot and reduces the risk of injury. Generally, more cushioning is recommended in tennis, padel, and squash shoes, while it is often not as important in badminton.

  • Reinforcement: Reinforced shoes help to stabilise the foot in the shoe. Shoes adapted for racket sports are generally more stable than ordinary running shoes, but there are also models that are extra reinforced.

  • Type of sole: One of the most important parts of a pair of racket sports shoes is the sole. There are different types of soles depending on which sport the shoes are made for, and also depending on what surface you are playing on.

Do you ever play tennis or any other racket sport? Or are you an experienced player who plays continuously? Although we recommend that you choose a good quality pair of shoes, your level and ambitions will have an effect on which shoes we think you should buy.

For beginners or those who only play racket sports once in a while, there are clearly approved shoes for sale that cost less the . However, we recommend that you make sure they are good quality shoes by reading up on them thoroughly. If you are experienced and often play, it may be worth investing in a pair of slightly more expensive shoes if you can. This usually gives you more stability and improves your chances of playing well and developing your game – and you're paying more for value, as the shoes will probably last longer.
