If you’re looking for a mid-range fridge freezer in the UK today then do consider the Samsung RB29FWRNDBC. It’s an awesome, tall, freestanding model with an A + energy rating and tons of great features; including ‘frost free’ and a water dispenser. Crucially it freezes and chills well and won’t cost an arm and a leg.

The RB29FWRNDBC is a sexy-looking black model with dimensions of 178 cm (H) x 59.5 cm (W) x 66.8 cm (D). Inside you’ll find 288 litres of space – which should be sufficient for a small to medium-sized family. You’ll find a pleasant digital display for controlling your separate thermostats. Down below the freezer has storage of 98 litres across three drawers and has a feature called ‘True No Frost’ which means you won’t ever have to roll up your sleeves and perform a tiresome manual defrost. There’s also a fast freeze feature to rapidly cool any newly introduced items to the freezer to lock in nutrients and prevent thawing.

Up top you have a 190 litre fridge with four well designed shelves and a handy moisture-regulated crisper drawer to keep fruit and veg fresh for longer. There’s also a useful ‘Easy Slide’ - a drawer on rollers so you get easy access to your most commonly-used items. The reservoir for your integrated water dispenser is situated on the inside of the door so takes up a bit of storage space. Fortunately there’s still plenty of room for your jugs and bottles and other smaller items and it does mean you won’t need to plumb in this model for the dispenser to work. You’ll also find a handy open door alarm if it hasn’t sealed properly.

This fridge freezer is quite brilliant when it comes to chilling and freezing. It’s powerful and fast and will maintain temperatures perfectly - unless exposed to extreme outside conditions. Insulation isn’t its strongest point but it should be fine if kept in a kitchen. Another negative is the power outage safe storage period is less than 24 hours – but this Samsung still beats a lot of the competition in this respect so isn’t something to get too bothered about. Finally, this is one of the quietest fridge freezers on the market, generating just 39 decibels.

What’s hot:

  • Chills and freezes brilliantly
  • No manual defrosting
  • Efficient and quiet

What’s not:

  • Insulation below average
  • Water dispenser needs manual refilling
  • Drawers hard to remove for cleaning

Why you should buy it: Despite a couple of minor nit-picks this is one of the best fridge freezers out there. Its insulation qualities aren’t perfect so do keep it in a kitchen rather than a garage, but in all other respects the Samsung RB29FWRNDBC is close to fridge-freezing perfection.
