HAIR OIL

FAQ

It’s in the name, oil for your hair. Most commonly, it’s used to repair dry or damaged hair and to improve hair growth and thickness, but it’s a versatile product and can be used in many ways. Like reducing frizziness, shorten drying time and make it easier for your hair to untangle when brushing it.

There are many different ways you can use coconut oil to improve your hair’s health. When using coconut oil, remember to start with as little as possible and add as you go.

Hair mask: Apply coconut oil throughout your hair and let it sit for a couple of hours. If your hair is in big need of help, you can leave it overnight, before washing it out. Scalp treatment: Massage a small amount of the oil into your scalp before bed. Wash it off with shampoo in the morning. Conditioner: Use shampoo as usual, but then apply coconut oil to the midsection of your hair and comb through to the tips.

You can use a hair rinse to get rid of any excess hair oil, once you’ve finished your treatment. The rinse you use depends on your hair and the oil you’ve used. Several things that will remove the excess oil, including lemon, apple cider vinegar, baking soda, aloe vera and many more.

Three things to consider before buying hair oil

Many hair oils contain silicones. The silicones used are approved and safe in the amounts found in hair oils. Silicones in a hair oil act as emollients and also provide shine. But if you want to avoid silicones for various reasons, you should read through the list of ingredients before you buy. To find silicones in the ingredient list, look for ingredients that end with “cone” and “xane”.

If you find it easy to overdose the hair oil, buy a product that has a good packaging with some form of dosing system. The most difficult to handle are bottles with large bottle openings. Pumps or spray nozzles are usually the easiest to apply. And start carefully – rather use too little product than too much. Applying too much will leave your hair feeling heavy and greasy.

Many different types of oils are used in hair oils, but some are more common than others.

  • Argan oil is perhaps the most common oil in hair products. Argan oil is yellow and is easily absorbed by the hair, while adding shine and leaving the hair soft.
  • Castor oil is often used to stimulate hair growth.
  • Coconut oil is good at taming frizzy hair.
  • Jojoba oil moisturises the hair and is said to be able to fight dandruff.
  • Sunflower oil is good for brittle hair that breaks easily. It is also a common oil to use as a base for other oils, as a so-called carrier oil.
