We have tested hair oil and name Moroccanoil Original Treatment as best in test. This nourishing hair oil is quickly absorbed by the hair and gives a nice shine, without feeling sticky or heavy.
We conduct our tests ourselves and test all products as they are intended to be used in reality. In our test of hair oils we allowed four trained hairdressers with different hair types and hair colours use the products. We have used the following parameters as a basis for assessing the products in the test:
Nurturing ability: How soft and re-moisturised did your hair become? Is your hair easier to untangle?
Shine: How shiny did your hair become? Does the oil create lustre? Did it become greasy?
Frizziness: Does the oil effectively reduce frizziness? Does the oil work on different hair types? Does the oil weigh down fine hair?
Consistency: Is the oil easy to apply and distribute through the hair? How affordable is the oil?
During the test the hairdressers assumed a consumer perspective and used the products as their clients would use them. The score is for the total experience of the products in relations to their affordability.
A hair oil that suits all hair types without weighing the hair down
Just a couple of sprays of Davines’ Ol Oil makes the hair easier to untangle and helps it shine like a summer’s day. Without weighing the hair down or making it look greasy, this oil even makes frizzy hair look more polished.
The hair becomes soft and shiny, and if you normally suffer from tangled hair that’s difficult to comb out, Davines’ OI Oil will be a real godsend. You can use the product in towel-dry or dry hair. If you use it when the hair is towel-dry, it will make brushing and styling easier and help to reduce frizziness. If you want shiny hair, wait until it’s dry and styled, then give it a spray or two of this oil to finish.
The packaging and the spray function make Davines’ Ol Oil really easy to use, as you don’t end up with oily hands. Nor is the scent anything like as strong as it is in many other hair oils. It has a pleasant, gentle scent that isn’t intrusive and doesn’t overshadow your perfume. This is the oil for anyone looking for shine but who’d rather avoid that ‘summer marathon finish line’ wet look.
Nourishing hair oil that goes quickly into the hair and gives good shine without being sticky
The winner of the test is the classic Moroccan Oil that is based on argan oil and has a spicy, oriental fragrance. The oil is dark orange and the consistency is slightly more viscous than the other oils in the test and both when it is used as a deep conditioning treatment and as a styling product it feels more nurturing than any of the other oils. The products go into the hair well and leave it soft and shiny. It was primarily the test subjects with slightly thicker and coarser hair who appreciated this hair oil. Moroccan Oil does not leave the hair with a sticky feeling and gives fine lustre and visibly reduced frizziness. The price is slightly higher than average, but the product is very economical and is therefore seen as being very affordable and we thereby select it as being the best in the test.

Restorative and softening treatment with heat protection
Your hair will immediately become softer and easier to control when you use Lanza Keratin Healing Oil Treatment. It contains keratin that helps to build up the hair from the inside. Its restorative effect makes the hair quickly look less damaged and healthier. It's easy to apply the oil as it has a light formula and only a small amount goes a long way, making it extremely economical. Both thin and thick hair becomes smoother and healthier. Despite the product's light formula, it's easy to remove frizziness without the hair feeling heavy. The softness lasts until the day after washing, still without the hair feeling greasy. Unfortunately the product doesn't create much shine, but it does add some lustre. And a clear plus point is the fact that the oil contains a heat protector. This helps protect and repair the hair as much as possible. There aren't many negatives with Lanza Keratin Healing Oil Treatment, and it easily slips into a top position among hair oils.
Nurturing hair oil that give the hair a lovely shine and has a fantastic fragrance
Kérastase Elixir Ultime is a translucent hair oil based on argan oil, maize oil, a, paraxanthine oil and camellia oil that are all oils known for their nurturing properties. All of the test subjects award the highest scores for its fragrance that is mildly spicy with an undertone reminiscent of cedar wood. The consistency is medium thick and as a styling product is well suited for all of the hair types that used it in this test. As a deep conditioning treatment it is most suitable for people with dry or damaged hair as it feels very nurturing, but feels slightly too heavy for those with fine, healthy hair. Elixir Ultime is the most expensive of the tested oils, but we see it as being a good luxury choice since the oil is economical in use and the results are very good.

Effective frizz-reducing hair oil giving a lot of shine that does not weigh down the hair
Redken All Soft Argan-6, as the name would suggest, is based on argan oil, but also contains Omega-6, which is a fatty acid. The formula is free-flowing and completely translucent and the fragrance is discrete with a spicy undertone. All of the test subjects feel that the oil is very moisturising and gives shine, but those with the driest/most damaged hair think that the effect when All Soft Argan-6 is used as a deep conditioning treatment is not enough. As a styling product it works well for all hair types and above all we feel that it does not weigh the haor down, whether you have thick or fine hair. The frizz-reducing effect is above average and the oil also gives a lot of shine, which makes the hair feel soft and healthy.

Very nurturing hair oil that is quickly absorbed into the hair and has a delightful fragrance
Macadamia Natural Oil Treatment is a light yellow, viscous hair oil that has a fantastic spicy fragrance with a hint of vanilla. The oil comes in an attractive glass bottle with a built in pump that makes it easy to apply, but due to the slightly thicker consistency the oil is not felt to be as economical as the other tested products. Macadamia Natural oil is based on macadamia nut oil and argan oil and is quickly absorbed by the hair and the nurturing effect is felt to be above average. The oil makes the hair soft, shiny and frizz-free both when it is used as a deep conditioning treatment and when it is used as a styling product. Macadamia Natural Oil is given the highest score as a styling product by the test subjects who have dry and frizzy hair, while it is felt to be slightly too heavy for the very finest hair.
Shine-enhancing and softening oil that counteracts tangles
Wella SP LuxeOil is a great product for anyone with slightly thicker hair. The viscous, slightly thicker consistency of this hair oil makes the hair soft and definitely easier to untangle. However, the oil isn't as good on thinner hair. It can easily feel sticky, making the hair heavy and greasy. The sticky effect also means that it's easy to apply too much oil to thin hair, while you need quite a lot in thicker hair to get a result. The risk that the hair will become greasy also means that it's difficult to use the oil to control frizziness. To avoid a heavy feeling, you want to apply relatively little, but the dilemma then is that the product doesn't give much of a result. In terms of shine, Wella SP LuxeOil is fantastically good, so if you succeed in applying just the right amount you'll be happy with the end result.

Hair oil that gives a lovely shine and effectively removes frizziness from the hair
Orofluido Hair Oil is based on argan oil, linseed oil and cyperus oil and has quite a strong, spicy fragrance. The oil is quite viscous, dark yellow in colour and comes in a heavy and somewhat bulky glass bottle with quite a large opening, which makes it difficult to apply. Unfortunately, the difficulty of application together with the thick consistency means that it is not felt to be economical in use. The oil is quickly absorbed by the hair and makes it shiny and soft, but the nurturing effect is somewhat below average. Orofluido Hair Oil is most suited for thicker hair where as a styling product it is very effective against frizziness without making the hair greasy.

Hair oil made its breakthrough as a hair care and styling product several years ago and now most of the major brands have one or more types of hair oil in their product range. The winner in our test in the category of luxury oil, Moroccan Oil treatment, is often called “the original” when it comes to hair oil and is best in the test as the oil is affordable, has a good consistency and makes hair noticeably softer and easier to manage. Our favourite among the less expensive hair oils is L’Oréal Mythic Oil, which is selected as the winner in the test in the budget category since it makes hair soft without weighing it down.
Hair oil is a collective term for hair care products that are based on nurturing oils such as, for example, argan oil, avocado oil, grape seed oil or moringa oil. Hair oil can be used in various ways, the most common is to apply a couple of drops to damp hair prior to styling, which results in reduced frizziness, a shorter drying time, improved untangling and increased shine. The oil can also be applied to the ends when the hair is dry to give shine and softness to the hair. Regardless of whether you use hair oil on wet or dry hair, you can warm a few drops of the oil between the palms of your hands and then drawn them over the lengths and ends. You can comb through the hair with a fine-toothed comb after application to distribute the oil evenly through the hair but avoid the scalp. Another area of application for hair oil is as a deep conditioning treatment, where you use a greater quantity of oil and allow it to work into damp hair for 20-40 minutes before rinsing it out. You can also boost your usual deep conditioning treatment with a couple of drops of hair oil for extra nurturing effect. Hair oil is suitable for most hair types, but perhaps has the best effect on dry and frizzy hair that is in need of moisture and care. For fine hair we recommend that you use a smaller amount of oil and only apply it to the very tips to avoid the hair from becoming greasy and feeling weighed down. If you have pale or very light hair it is a good idea not to choose an oil of a darker colour than your own hair as this can give the hair a yellowish tone.
