In order to use the rear facing car seat, it must be possible to install it correctly in your car. For this reason, test the rear facing car seat in the seat you wish to fit it to.
Isofix rear-facing car seat: A car seat fitted with isofix requires isofix mountings to be fitted in the seat of the car. Installing with isofix is easy and quick, but often limits the maximum weight of the car seat.
Rear facing car seat with anchoring straps: If you choose a car seat that is fitted with a seat belt and anchoring straps, you get a high maximum weight and a long period of use. For correct installation, there are often good video instructions online.
Rear facing car seat with a base: A base-mounted car seat is often sold in packs with car seats, providing a ready-made car seat solution for your child’s first 3-4 years. The base is mounted in the car with isofix. If you want to be able to move the car seat between different cars, it is convenient to have a base in each car.
If you choose a child car seat which is weight-based you need to make sure that it's EU-approved. Look for the label showing a capital ‘E’ in a circle and ‘ECE R44’.
If you choose a car seat that's height-based it must have a label showing a capital ‘E’ in a circle and ‘R129’.
